Windrush Square, Brixton

Windrush Square is an open public space in the centre of Brixton that was originally known as the Brixton Oval, and then Tate Gardens. The square was renamed to recognise the important contribution of the Afro-Caribbean community to the area, marking the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the HMT Empire Windrush.
On the east side of the square you can see one of London’s most famous ‘ghostsigns’ for Bovril which has been there in one form or another since the 1930s.
