{"id":1646,"date":"2018-03-26T15:34:13","date_gmt":"2018-03-26T15:34:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reeddesign.co.uk\/wordpress\/?p=1646"},"modified":"2024-11-07T10:25:10","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T10:25:10","slug":"clapham-ghostsigns-re-imagined","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reeddesign.co.uk\/wordpress\/2018\/03\/26\/clapham-ghostsigns-re-imagined\/","title":{"rendered":"Clapham Ghostsigns Re-imagined"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Later this year &#8211; on Sunday 30 September leaving at 10am and 2pm from Clapham North Station &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghostsigns.co.uk\/2018\/03\/ghostsigns-of-clapham-a-forthcoming-walk.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ghostsigns<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.claphamsociety.com\/clapsocevents.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clapham Society<\/a> are getting together to do a one-off tour of the ghostsigns of Clapham (follow CS link to book). I&#8217;ve been helping them to prepare for this with some local research and by letting them use some of my photos. I&#8217;ve also been trying out some different techniques to reconstruct how the ghostsigns might have looked when they were new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">United Dairies<\/h2>\n\n\n<div id=\"twenty20-1\" class=\"twenty20\" style=\"width: 100% !important; clear: both;\"><div class=\"twentytwenty-container twenty20-1 \"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reeddesign.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/United-Dairies-1.jpg\" alt=\"United Dairies - junction of Landor Road and Hubert Grove\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reeddesign.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/United-Dairies-2.jpg\" alt=\"United Dairies - junction of Landor Road and Hubert Grove\" \/><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The United Dairies sign is at the junction of Landor Road and Hubert Grove. John Adams &amp; Co, Dairy is listed in the 1914 Post Office street directory at the shop on the corner at 94 Landor Road. Before it was taken over by United Dairies, the bottling depot was owned by Curtis &amp; Dumbrill Dairy who delivered both milk and mineral waters from the neighbouring Streatham Spa.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"twenty20-2\" class=\"twenty20\" style=\"width: 100% !important; clear: both;\"><div class=\"twentytwenty-container twenty20-2 \"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reeddesign.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/United-Dairies-3.jpg\" alt=\"United Dairies - junction of Landor Road and Hubert Grove\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reeddesign.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/United-Dairies-4.jpg\" alt=\"United Dairies - junction of Landor Road and Hubert Grove\" \/><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Royal London Mutual Insurance Society<\/h2>\n\n\n<div id=\"twenty20-3\" class=\"twenty20\" style=\"width: 100% !important; clear: both;\"><div class=\"twentytwenty-container twenty20-3 \"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reeddesign.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Royal-London-Mutual-1.jpg\" alt=\"Royal London Mutual - Clapham Common South Side\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/reeddesign.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Royal-London-Mutual-2.jpg\" alt=\"Royal London Mutual - Clapham Common South Side\" \/><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Before this sign on Clapham Common South Side was painted for the Royal London Mutual it was a sign for Prices, Regina Shaving Stick.
